Not Exactly Roughing It

Beaver Creek’s motto is “Not Exactly Roughing It” and about a month from now BC will up the cultural ante for American ski resorts by again hosting The New Yorker magazine’s On The Slopes weekend. Billed as three days of culture: comedy, cartoons, concerts, film previews, “and, of course, superior skiing”, participants will get to meet “some of the magazine’s most celebrated talent” and be entertained by comedian Martin Short and musician Chuck Mangione.

Just for fun, I checked out how much it would cost for my wife and I to spend three nights at the slope side Hyatt, placing us in about the middle of the fun. A mere $800 per night. I figure another $200 a day per person would cover the lift tickets, food and tickets to Martin Short and Chuck Mangione. Even my cat could do the math on this. It would be cheaper to fly out of Jackson for a long weekend in New York and get the full culture dose, and  enjoy Targhee’s better snow on either end of the trip. Arthur Frommer and his daughter Pauline keep discovering nice and affordable New York City hotels, which is the key to keeping New York City affordable.
