So sad to learn; another members only exclusive club is in the news- Stowe Mountain Resort’s Stowe Mountain Club recently announced the opening of their Alpine Club building as a hub for its operations.
According to their website: For generations, families have shared the magic of Stowe. Now, there is a club worthy of this inspiring place: Stowe Mountain Club, a comprehensive club that provides you and your family an unprecedented level of service and unrivaled access to four seasons of fun throughout the resort…. The casual elegance of the alpine clubhouse contains every amenity, including a ski valet, to make your total skiing experience more pleasurable than ever before. When Spruce Peak trades its winter white for glorious green, the Bob Cupp golf course affords a sporting challenge amid breathtaking mountain vistas. Certified instructors in the fully equipped wellness center help you achieve maximum enjoyment of the outdoor life. The full-service spa provides a restorative haven for massage and skin care treatments. And preferred seating at the Cliff House enhances its exceptional cuisine and incredible views.
Beyond these considerable amenities, the club’s concierge is at your service, able to coordinate any kind of outdoor adventure, in every season. In fact, friendly and helpful faces are all around, for this is more than just a club. It’s a complete, welcoming alpine community, one that brings a new level of effortless enjoyment to those who revere these mountains, who savor this unique and inspiring place called Stowe.
The amenity package includes a member’s locker room, restaurant, bar, lounge, game room, reading ares, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, ski valet and valet parking.
Pretty soon club members at these types places will be hiring skier to do the skiing for them too.
I wasn’t able to find any information on how expensive the membership fee and annual dues are, but I’m sure they will be in line with the multiple thousands other similar clubs charge.
Its been forty years since I skied Stowe. I think lift tickets were 8 bucks then. I stayed a 400 yard walk away from the main lifts in the Vermont State Ski Dorm. I think I paid under ten bucks for a bunk and breakfast. I’m delighted to know the dorm is still running and still offering affordable skier lodging- $17 for lodging, $5 for breakfast and $7 for dinner. I hope it continues it many decades long run of offering affordable skiing options to skiers long after the Stowe Mountain Club becomes a historical footnote.
