Powder Blog’s New Look
January 12th, 2009Posted in Skiing Everywhere
The eagerly anticipated new design this blog is up and on display and it pleases me to no end. I give all the credit to my son Evan Johnson who designed and engineered it and added all kinds of wonderful features to it; many I’ll never take advantage of, but they’re sure cool none-the-less.
I can’t recommend Evan enough for anyone needing help with web development projects – he’s a real pro and this sort of stuff is his passion. Go to Chili Pepper Design and put him to work for you- you won’t regret it!
My ski writing falls into three general categories so the new design makes them more obvious and accessible . Living in the Tetons, I write about skiing here a lot so my Skiing in the Tetons category gets posted to the most.
I think about the larger world of skiing a lot too, so I’m throwing my musings about skiing outside the Tetons into the Skiing Everywhere category.
Finally, I can’t help but observe the significant trend at ski resorts toward courting and catering to wealthy skiers. Sure there is money to be made doing this, but it comes at a cost to the sport- it inevitably raises the cost of we all pay to ski at resorts that have spent money to upgrade their facilities and service offerings to appeal to this market segment. I worry about this because I don’t want to see a great sport become too expensive for people of average means to participate in and enjoy fully. So, I’ll post about what I feel is good or bad about this trend in the Skiing in Luxo-land category.
Thanks for visiting and reading. As always, I welcome your comments.
Thanks again Evan!

Hey! Just stopping by to say I’m glad you’re happy with the new design (and testing out the comments while I’m at it…). Keep up the good work here on PowderBlog!
