New Avalanche Safety Product

Last week I mentioned the  ABS Avalanche Airbag and how impressed I was with the concept of a device that attempts to prevent a victim from being buried when caught in an avalanche, as well as providing protection for the victim’s head.

Via Steve Romeo , today we learn that BCA will be offering a competing design next year and it should be more widely available than the ABS model.  I think this is terrific news. If I had to chose between a pack that offered me  protection from having my head smashed while it offered me hope of keeping up higher while riding and avalanche so I might end up on top , or at least not too deeply buried;  or a pack like the Avalung that will let me breath and live a little longer after being buried by an avalanche,  I’d opt for trying to stay high and hope for a no rescue or a quicker rescue situation. I’m sure other poeple will disagree, hopefully for very valid reasons, if so, perhaps someone wil enlighten and convince me?
