Was January Cold? Think again.

Now that W is on permanent vacation, I guess NASA’s climate scientists are no longer under house arrest, so we can mine some interesting (disturbing?) climate data on NASA’s website. If you thought we were having a real winter back in January, check out this NASA map of the average global temperatures for January 2009, compared to the average temps from 1951 through 1980. All the western US is looking pretty darn warm. Not good for us skiers! Thank God we’re not in the far, far north. Look at how much warmer northern Canada, north Scandinavia and northern Siberia, especially northern Siberia, are getting to be. Worse, the color scale is not linear on these maps; each color is double the difference of the one preceding.
If you go to this NASA link you can build your own map like this using different dates.
If you don’t like the look of the warming world, do something about it. Click on any (or all) of the links below and get involved. – And don’t forget follow Your Climate Responsibility Code.

Thank you Evan, I meant to include POW, but spaced it. The error is now corrected.
