Something to Celebrate

Just as surprising as a black man becoming the President of the U.S., the U.S. Nordic Ski Team just wowed the nordic skiing world with by finishing in second place behind only Norway in the overall medal count at the conclusion of the Nordic World Championships. Usually, the U.S. team is so far back in the pack that they would hardly qualify as also-rans, it is remarkable to read they won four golds, a silver and a bronze!
Here in the Teton Valley, there isĀ a youth nordic skiing program, about four years old, offered by the Teton Nordic Club giving local kids training and a chance to compete in regional races and possibly advance to the junior nationals. I hope the success of the national team shines a positive light on this great sport and tempts more kids to give it a try, both here in the Teton Valley and all across snow country. Unfortunately, it is certainly a more affordable alternative for parents than alpine ski racing these days.
