Rita coming home
At least a week has past since we’ve gotten any new snow here in the Tetons. So I’ve been soaking up the Vitamin D while enjoying superb classic nordic skiing in the sun’s warm glow. Happily, the air temps have stayed cool enough so the snow isn’t melting appreciably. After decades of putzing about on x-c gear, I think I’m finally doing the classic striding technique efficiently. The miles are dropping behind me nearly effortlessly. Just a little more forward lean was all it took.
There is still no new powder in the forecast until maybe this coming weekend! After weeks of nearly constant snow, this seems like an eternity between storms. I know I should do a day of groomers once in awhile, and mid-January when vacationers are scarce would be the ideal time, but skiing groomers is like mowing the lawn– mindless repetition. At least striding around my 6 mile x-c loop I get some real exercise. Maybe today I ‘ll switch to skate skiing and really get some exercise. The skate tracks should be lightning fast after all this cold sunny weather.
