Support “Carpool Sundays”, and Mondays, and Tuesdays, and …

As I previously mentioned on this blog, Grand Targhee Resort has been working on a way to encourage its day users to carpool. This Sunday will be the first of its Carpool Sundays. All the riders in any private vehicle arriving arriving between 8:30-11:00 AM with three or more people in it will each get a coupon for $10 off a lift ticket ($5 off on the senior lift ticket) and a free hot chocolate or coffee coupon.

Carpooling is such a smart thing to do on so many levels. I hope Targhee’s incentives wake up many of the folks I see driving up to ski on solo missions. I am delighted Grand Targhee has taken the initiative to call attention to this issue. I understand they are thinking about some sort of program for season passholders too. I wish them well and thank them for doing this!

It’s a small thing, but might be worth Targhee’s couple of minutes to do: Lots of people wake up every morning and check Targhee’s Snow Conditions webpage. It is the perfect place to put a reminder to people thinking about driving up to Targhee to consider calling a friend and carpooling.  Bridger Bowl does this, in fact it is the first sentence every day on their snow report webpage, “Keep Winter Cool…please carpool when possible and have a great season on the slopes!”

If by some wierd chance you think this is all a bit silly, check out my most recent post about NASA’s latest global temperature findings. As skiers, we have a big stake in this global warming-carbon emissions problem.

  • The first Grand Targhee “Carpool Sunday” was a great success with more than 200 coupons being handed out and roughly 60 vehicles participating. Some drove in asking point blank where to pick up coupons (one truck in particulare with about 8 people packed in) and others wee pleasently surprised to be rewarded for helping us save winter.

All in all, I expect the coming Carpool Sundays to be even bigger as word gets out. Passholder were even excited to receive the coffee/hot chocolate coupons for carpooling as well.

nice to know that people realize they need to be aprt of the solution and we hope these skiers and riders decide to make this an everyday occurence and not just a Sunday special.

See you (and at least two others in your vehicle) this Sunday and every Sunday until closing day on April 12th!

  • Thanks for the update John, it is great news.
