May Day! May Day!

May 1st, 2009
Posted in Skiing in the Tetons

It’s May 1st and there’s more fresh powder on the Tetons again this morning, even down to 6000′ in the valley there’s a dusting. If the SNOTEL measuring is to be believed it looks like there’s about 4″ of new snow in the mountains, and the sun is shining! Could be a fun morning to start of the merry month of May.

While the Tetons have been enjoying a prolonged winter, it appears Utah and Montana have been doing even better. Snowbird is now reporting 612″  for their season so far and I hear Alta had grabbed over 700″! Montana just keeps getting storm after storm lately with up to 5′ reported falling places this past week.

It’s time to get out and enjoy Spring Winter!

Noon Update: SNOTEL nailed it! There was about 4″ of nice new snow above 8000′ this morning. Mighty nice spring sugary snow that was well worth the hike to enjoy. Blue skies, clear distant vistas, singing birds in the trees, great snow and nobody skiing it. A primo morning.
